Book, candle by mirror

Colour pencil on paper
One of the few paintings I have made since coming to Bangalore, and, of all art forms, it had to be a still life. Talk about art imitating life!!! The painting is of a book (Tagore’s Gitabitaan, to be exact!) and a candle placed in front of a full-length mirror. I made this in two nights (albeit working intermittently). Had to work nights in order to keep the sunlight from reflecting on the book and mirror, and reducing the sharpness of the shadows thrown by the candle. The other challenge I had to face while making this was actually painting by the candle’s light, standing some 6-7 feet from it.

absolutely stunning work (painting part) tuhin.

but i think there is a technical flaw. note, where the book is facing and from which side the reflection is coming. it is only possible when you have put a mirror in its side. may be i am wrong. enlighten us...

See the double helix of the candle stand? And the sun-like glow above it? And the book of life beneath? Like Da Vinci, the artist is playing within the canvas. Leaving little clues and signs. Keep watching this place... someday he might give a clue that will reveal his bank account number!

I find your shading really amazing. In this work, as well as the previous one, the transition from light to deep shadows is really good!
