Computer art
One of my first experiments with computer art. I made this with PaintShop Pro 5 on my home computer, over a couple of days. Because I didn’t know the software too well, couldn’t use the more advanced features. Just stuck to painting on a single layer canvas, taking my chance with getting it right on the first try.
Book, candle by mirror
Colour pencil on paper
One of the few paintings I have made since coming to Bangalore, and, of all art forms, it had to be a still life. Talk about art imitating life!!! The painting is of a book (Tagore’s Gitabitaan, to be exact!) and a candle placed in front of a full-length mirror. I made this in two nights (albeit working intermittently). Had to work nights in order to keep the sunlight from reflecting on the book and mirror, and reducing the sharpness of the shadows thrown by the candle. The other challenge I had to face while making this was actually painting by the candle’s light, standing some 6-7 feet from it.
Woman and Light
Oil pastel on paper. This is perhaps the only painting i have made at one sitting (and within an hour too!). I initially intended it to be a full colour painting, but realized too late that i had just three colours left in the paint box, the ones used in this. This is also special in being one of my first paintings where i did not use the pencil at all, not even for outlines.
